Eleventh Mile of my Learning Marathon
Review of last week
Last week was a good week for me because I got the result for my merit criteria for Unit 2 computer systems. I was quite scared to find out the report for this because I felt like when I did this assignment I rushed it. The reason why I rushed it is because I didn't manage my time properly when I wanted to the assignment. My lack of management meant that I couldn't do important things like proofreading my work. The reason why proofreading is important is because it gives me a chance to find out any spelling errors that could inhibit the reader from understanding what I am trying to say. Another thing is that proofreading allows me to view my work from the readers point of view, this then allows me to make any adjustments in order to make things clearer. Lack of management also meant that I couldn't give my teacher a draft so she can have a look at it and tell me I am in the right path or not. I am lucky I passed this time but next time the result of lack of management could - God forbid - mean that I fail or not meet a criteria. The further impact of that would be I would not get the D* that I am going this year.
Last week Friday we also got the chance to go on a trip to SKY. This was such a privilege because it helped understand how it feels to actually work in I.T. It helped me understand how it will feel to work in I.T because they gave us a task that involved what the staffs that actually work there do on a day to day basis. My task was to develop the sky website using html. This means that I had to learn a new skill, which was something that I found fun to do. After doing that task I now feel like software developing is something that I do not mind doing when I finish university. Another thing that happened there is that I got the chance to talk to a software developer as well that just graduated. I asked him about the path that he took to get there, asking him is something that helped me because he re-assured me that studying computer science at university is the right thing to do.
At the trip we also met the leader of communication of sky and he taught me something very important that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, which is that failing at something does not mean that it is over. He explained to us about how failing at his first job meant that he at to go work at the BBC and that is when he discovered that the TV industry is where he actually wanted to be and he loved it. This is when he gained the experience that he needed to come and work with SKY. Another thing that I learnt from him is that other people might be able to see what you as a person cannot see in yourself, this means that you have to listen to other people and get advice from them because they might be able to see what you need to be a successful person. I guess this supports the adage that states a guest sees more in an hour than a host sees in a year.
Development
In order for me to develop I need to stop believing that failing or not meeting a criteria means that it is all over because the fail might be what motivates you to keep on going when things get tough and motivates you to give it your all in the next assignment.another thing is that I need to stop hoping that things happen and actually come up with a plan that I can follow to my success.
